Plot Summary

Plot: Julia Roberts and John Malkovich star in this exciting retelling of the time-honored story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Here, the classic tale of good vs. evil is told through the eyes of Mary Reilly (Roberts), a housemaid who lives in the house of Dr. Henry Jekyll (Malkovich). An innocent girl, Mary's placid demeanor belies a core of steel that has enabled her to overcome a past scarred by violence and pain. In the service of Dr. Jekyll, she finds a safe haven at last. Devoted to the brilliant, reserved doctor, Mary also finds herself drawn to his mysterious assistant, Mr. Hyde. Together they share a terrible secret that casts a shadow of fear and danger on the Jekyll household. As Hyde grows stronger, the gentle doctor weakens, and only Mary can unravel the awful, unholy truth.
Rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America.
