Plot Summary

Plot: All Charlie Lang (Nicolas Cage) wants out of life is to be a good cop, to love his wife and start a family. But wife Muriel (Rosie Perez), a brassy hairdresser, has different aspirations, all having to do with money. Charlie drops by his favorite coffee shop where he finds good-hearted waitress Yvonne (Bridget Fonda) in a funk because she's been driven to bankruptcy by her ex-husband. When he's called away on police business, he waves the lottery ticket he just bought for his wife, promising Yvonne that if he wins, he'll split the pot with her. Astonishingly, Charlie does win. And he keeps his promise to Yvonne. His wife is furious, the New York press is delighted, but Charlie, Yvonne and Muriel find that wealth and fame change their lives in ways they could never have anticipated.
Rated PG by the Motion Picture Association of America.
