General Questions

What is Redbox On Demand beta?

Redbox is testing a potential new digital service with a small subset of our customers, called Redbox On Demand beta. Redbox On Demand beta allows select customers to rent or own the newest digital movies and own select TV shows and is designed to complement our physical rental business. It is currently in a closed beta, which means we're testing the general experience (browsing of the storefront, content merchandising, purchase, and playback), with a limited number of people, on an invite-only basis. As we test and learn from our customers, we will make evaluations that determine any future course of action for the service.

What is beta?

Great question! Beta is the test pilot of the potential Redbox On Demand offering. If you've received your invitation, sign in HERE to help us get Redbox On Demand beta off the ground.

What’s the difference between Redbox and Redbox On Demand beta?

Redbox On Demand beta is another great way to watch new movies and TV shows. Users can stream or download movies and watch them from their mobile phone or tablet, laptop or desktop computer or by using a streaming device connected to their TV. Click HERE to see the current list of Supported Devices.

But what about the kiosk?

Our kiosks aren't going anywhere. We know many of our customers prefer renting from the box, so feel free to stop by your favorite Redbox location for the latest movie and game releases.

Is there a subscription fee?

Redbox On Demand beta is a transactional service and doesn't require a subscription. Just pay as you rent and purchase, without being tied down to a monthly payment. Just keep in mind that we're not accepting gift cards for Redbox On Demand beta transactions at this time.

Will the same movies and games available to rent or purchase at Redbox kiosks and to stream from the Redbox On Demand beta?

Not necessarily. The Redbox On Demand beta will offer a large selection of movies. If you're looking for other new release titles on DVD or Blu-ray™, or new release games, they will still be available at your favorite kiosk.

Which mobile devices support Redbox On Demand beta?

How much does Redbox On Demand beta cost?

Prices vary based on a few factors, such as: if you are selecting a movie or TV show, whether or not the title is a new release, if you are renting or purchasing a title, and if you’re watching in SD or HD. Movie rentals generally start at $1.99. The price to purchase movies varies but generally they start at $3.99. TV episodes are available for purchase only starting at $1.99, and TV seasons will be available for purchase starting at $12.99.

Why are some movies available to buy, but not rent, digitally?

Our agreements with film studios and distributors dictate the timing of when a film is available to rent digitally, own digitally or rent at the kiosk.

How many Redbox Play Pass points will I earn for each movie I rent or purchase on Redbox On Demand beta?

If you are a Play Pass member, you will receive 10 Redbox Play Pass points for each Redbox On Demand beta transaction.

How do I get started with Redbox On Demand beta?

We're happy you're interested! At this time, this is a closed beta experience - meaning invite-only. If you've received an invitation from Redbox to be a part of our beta team, sign in at https://www.redbox.com/signin using your existing Redbox username and password.

What devices are supported by the Redbox On Demand beta?

Mobile: The Redbox On Demand beta can be accessed via your iOS (iOS 9.0 or later) or Android (4.1 and up) device.
Desktop Computer: Download the Silverlight plugin for your Mac or Windows PC HERE.

I got an invite, but I don't see Redbox On Demand beta offers after logging in. What should I do?

First, confirm that you are logging in to your redbox.com account with the same email address at which you received the Redbox On Demand beta invitation. If the On Demand tab still does not appear on the Redbox.com homepage, call the Customer Care Team at 855-733-2698.

How many times can I watch my Redbox On Demand beta Rental?

As many times as you'd like within the rental period listed on the movie's detail page. You can also check out My Library at https://www.redbox.com/library to see how much time you have left to watch.

When do streaming rentals expire?

Once you complete your rental transaction and start watching your selection, you have 48 hours to finish watching it. You can watch your rental as many times as you like within those 48 hours. Otherwise, you have 30 days to start watching the rental before it’s no longer available for viewing. Our agreements with film studios and distributors dictate the length of time a rental is available for viewing.

Does my Redbox On Demand beta purchase expire?

Nope. If you purchased the electronic sell-through (or EST) version of a Redbox On Demand beta movie, your purchase never expires. They are yours to keep and will always be available in My Library.

Can I stream my movie on mulitple devices at the same time?

Yes, you can! You can stream up to two movies at once from different devices.

Can I use promo codes or credits for my Redbox On Demand rentals and purchases?

Not at this time, but you can earn Play Pass points from digital rentals or purchases to redeem at the Box. Please keep in mind that it could be up to 24 hours before your points become active.

How many devices can I register on my Redbox On Demand beta account?

How many devices can I register on my Redbox On Demand beta account? You can register up to five devices. That could be your smartphone, your tablet, your laptop, your desktop and a streaming device. It’s enough for a family or just one person who really loves movies. But don't forget, you can only stream from two devices at the same time. Click HEREto see the list of Supported Devices.

Where can I find my Redbox On Demand beta rentals and purchase history?

View your transaction history by visiting My Account, and then click on the Summary tab. Click here for a shortcut to My Account: https://www.redbox.com/account. And if you’re looking for a list of your rentals and purchases, go to My Library at https://www.redbox.com/library.

My credit card was declined, what should I do?

Follow up with your bank or credit card Customer Service center as soon as possible to figure out why your card was declined.

Can I use more than one payment method for my Redbox On Demand beta rental or purchase?

We only allow one form of payment (credit or debit card only) for digital rentals and purchases.

Do I have to pay tax when I make a Redbox On Demand beta rental or purchase?

Depending on the State of your billing address, applicable taxes will appear on your checkout page.

I was charged more than once for my Redbox On Demand beta rental or purchase. What should I do?

We’re sorry about that. Please call the Customer Care Team at 855-733-2698 and we’ll look in to that right away.

I can’t find the title I purchased or rented. Where did it go?

Rented and purchased titles are located in your On Demand Library at https://www.redbox.com/library. Expired rentals will automatically be removed from your library after they expire.

Why am I seeing charges from Redbox that I did not authorize?

First, you should log in to your account and check your rental history, outstanding balances and collection attempts. If something looks out of the ordinary, contact us right away.

How do I get the Redbox On Demand beta App?

Can I set up parental controls?

Unfortunately, we don't have Parental Control options for Redbox On Demand beta at this time. But we promise to update our customers if this changes in the future.

Is closed captioning available on Redbox On Demand beta?

Yes, closed captioning is available.

Closed captioning isn’t working. How can I fix this?

First, check to make sure closed captioning is enabled on your device. If that doesn’t work, try relaunching the device. If that doesn’t work, please let us know by contacting the Customer Care Team at 855-733-2698.

Which web browsers are compatible with Redbox On Demand beta?

How do I turn closed captioning on/off?

If you’re watching on a device, you can use the player controls or settings to turn Closed Captioning on or off. With a streaming device, you’ll have to go through the device settings.

What internet speed do I need to use Redbox On Demand beta?

It varies, but here are some helpful suggestions: 1.5 Megabits per second (Mbps) is the recommended broadband connection speed, 3.0 Mbps for SD, 5.0 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps Ultra HD quality.

My movie or TV show keeps skipping or buffering. What should I do?

Be sure to check your internet connection and device connectivity as it may be unstable or weak. A network sometimes becomes congested if many people and devices are on it at the same time in the same area. If you continue to experience problems, you can call the Customer Care Team at 855-733-2698.

My Redbox On Demand beta movie is too bright or dark. What should I do?

Your device has a brightness level that you can adjust to your preferences. If the problem continues, visit the Help Center for your device or contact the manufacturer for assistance.

Do I need a special program or player to stream a movie or TV show from my desktop computer?

You will need the Silverlight plugin to stream through Redbox On Demand on your computer. Download Silverlight HERE.

What is Silverlight and how do I get it?

Silverlight is a free plug-in that allows you to stream movies or TV shows on your computer. It’s sort of like your computer’s own personal streaming device. Download Silverlight HERE.

The video and sound are out of sync on my title. What can I do to fix this?

I'm experiencing pixilation and other video problems. What can I do to fix this?

My device is registered but it's still not working. How can I fix this?

First, try reinstalling the Redbox On Demand beta app. Be sure to check your internet connection and device connectivity. If you continue to experience problems, you can call the Customer Care Team at 855-733-2698.

The title streaming is not the one I clicked on. How can I fix this?

Check My Library at https://www.redbox.com/library to make sure you selected the right movie. If that doesn’t solve it, then it may be a configuration issue. If you contact us, we should be able to help you out.

Why is my high definition title playing in standard definition?

Some devices do not support HD playback and will play the SD version of a title by default. Check device compatibility to ensure it's HD capable before renting/purchasing the HD version of a movie.

The Watch Now button isn't working. How can I fix this?

First, double check to make sure your rental hasn’t expired. If your rental should still be available, try clearing your browser’s cache and log in again. You might also try restarting the Redbox On Demand beta app.

I received a message that my download isn't completing. What should I do?

How do I de-register a device?

You can de-register via the My Account section of your account.

Why does it take so long to download a title to my mobile device?

When things are moving slower than usual, check your Wi-Fi connection. You might have too many devices connected to your network, or you may need to restart your router. If the Wi-Fi is performing as it should, try restarting the Redbox On Demand beta application.

My device or app is crashing when I try to launch it or watch a video. How can I fix this?

In general when this occurs, this could be a device-specific issue. On computers you can attempt to launch playback on another browser, restart your browser, and/or clear the browser cookies. On other devices, turning the device off and back on should resolve the issue. If you continue to experience problems, you can call the Customer Care Team at 855-733-2698.

My movie or TV show plays without sound or the sound is too low. How can I fix this?

First please make sure the volume is turned up on both your device and on the Redbox player (computer or the Redbox app). If that doesn’t work, please check to see if the volume works on another movie or TV show in your library. If that title plays without issue, or if you continue to experience problems, please call the Customer Care Team at 855-733-2698.

My video isn't displaying correctly. What should I do?

Why doesn’t the video fill my entire screen?

Are you in Full Screen mode? Use the Esc key to reduce the size of the player screen and then click on the Full Screen icon.

I got disconnected while streaming. What should I do?

First, check your connection to make sure it’s strong and that you don’t have too many other devices connected to it. Sometimes when too many devices are being used to download files, play games or watch videos, it can affect your streaming quality. If that’s not the problem, try restarting your device, modem and router.

I have Silverlight on my Mac, but I'm getting a message that it's not installed. What can I do?

Make sure Silverlight is enabled, and that you have the latest version installed. That can be confirmed in the browser settings. If Silverlight is enabled, but you continue to get notified that it is not installed, try uninstalling and reinstalling the application. Download Silverlight HERE.
