A former star reporter reduced to tabloid journalism finds a shocking discovery while investigating a story on great disasters. In analyzing photographs from calamities such as the sinking of the Titanic, the explosion of the Hindenburg, and the destruction caused by Hurricane Hugo, reporter Tom Merrick discovers a disturbing similarity among the archive photos: the same unknown man appears in nearly every photo, virtually unchanged through time. The man turns out to be a futuristic tourist visiting the scenes of historic disasters. As Merrick and magazine researcher Elizabeth Wintern set out to uncover the man's identity, they soon find themselves putting their own lives on the line to avert imminent disasters.
