Plot Summary

This documentary, a montage constructed solely from historic footage, is a celebration of the outspoken, iconoclastic composer, musician and satirist Frank Zappa. It follows Zappa from his early days as a clean-shaven, suit-clad youth, through his role as fearless chief freak, and up to his relentlessly productive final days before his death at 52. Using interviews and performance footage across three decades, the film seats the viewer right up front, close enough to Zappa to read the flickering emotions in his eyes.
Rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for language, some sexual references and brief nudity.
